JACQUELINE RYAN

I observe the very fine details of nature and the qualities such as colours, textures, shapes and compositions that nature creates as organisms grow or decay. I love the perfect but imperfect way that nature reproduces and grows. If I had to simplify, I would say that my work is a celebration of the natural world and reflects my passion for animals and plants. My jewellery is steeped in tradition as each and every piece is always, without exception, completely handmade by me. Technical understanding and goldsmithing allow me to express an idea freely, but it is equally important to me that the work takes on a different and deeper dimension: conveying a message, telling stories or revealing the character of the message. Rather than making jewellery as a simple design or 'just jewellery to wear'. I always think that when someone buys a piece of jewellery from an artist, they are also taking a little piece of the soul of the maker with them. A unique expression that represents a single moment in that artist's life at a particular time. An object made in this way gives the wearer a real history and the knowledge that what they are holding was actually made by a person and not a machine.
